How often should I update my website?

I keep hearing that Google "loves" frequently updated sites. How frequent are we talking about? Should I update as soon as I see that Google has crawled the site (based on my webmaster tools info)?
In other words, does it just want to see an update every time it crawls, or should I make little changes daily?

Should be such that the visitors don't get too much content at once and also just enough time before the new content is shown to them. When I had a blog I used to update it anywhere between 1-2 times a day. If the blog entry is too big I used to leave it on for a day. I believe this works well with search engines too, giving them enough time to crawl the page with new content.
