Indexing my website in Google

Relating to hosting, server and registration, all the formalities that were to be done are complete now and I have recently created a website too. To get indexed quickly, what should I do to attract Google crawlers? I am not really interested in paid methods and I don’t desire to use any of the black hat SEO techniques. A great way of getting indexed fast is by building links is what I have been told. Are there any experts here who agree with what I have to say? To get indexed quickly in Google, what other techniques can be used?
