Google Universal Search

Google's Universal Search was announced on Google's searchology webcast the other day. It is gradually being rolled out over the next two weeks.
when a search is done the results can include - web pages, images, video, news, maps, base, etc in the actual main search.

Anyone that is not a news publisher can't be happy about this.

Here is an example that kind of makes sense but there are lots of bad examples as well.

It appears that the universal search from Google could be beneficial to certain people. However, I prefer to choose what type of results I receive. I would much rather choose to see videos when I am specifically looking for videos and news articles when I am in need of news articles. If I am looking for basic information on a topic, I would much rather be able to view webpages about the topic. I think Google is making a mistake by putting the time and resources into this project. Google will probably have two separate areas for this instead of having the universal search as their primary search engine.

The choice to select video , images , blogs etc specifically is a wonderful feature google is providing. Its ofcourse worth doing.

But this kind of things are there in other search engines also. But, then also google is simple to use.
