Certainly content is King. If you have great content on your website, you won't have to work very hard to get quality backlinks for your website which are again very important for SEO. Also, it is important to make sure that consistency is very important in SEO of the website.

For example : it is better to post 1 article per day on your website or blog rather than posting 25-30 articles in one day

Even if you cannot update content frequently, there is also an option of adding RSS feed on topic of your website or blog as one of the section in your website so that your website gets updated daily....and on top of that you should update the website or blog at least once a week..
