5 Things You Must Avoid When Trying To Make Money Blogging
There are a lot of ways to make money by blogging. There are also a lot of ways to spend a lot of time and effort and make very little or no money. I will share with you 5 things that I know will hold you back from making good money while blogging online.
1. All sell, no teach - This is a site killer and almost everyone does it at the beginning of their on line blogging. If you are going to try to do 100% selling on your site, you should just purchase a high quality on line store. If you are going to relationship market, you need to build a relationship before you start to try to sell thing to people. People will buy from you if you are selling what they want. If they know you and trust you, they will buy from you before going and looking for a "better deal" on another site. You must teach people something on your blog.
2. Stealing or using junk content - Never steal other people's articles and content. The internet is very wise to this and you get no value at all from the search engines. It may not kill your blog, but it certainly will not help it get any quality traffic. The same goes for "junk" Private Label Rights (PLR) content that is available all over the place on line. If you content is not well written and personal in nature, your readers will know this very quickly. Your content in on your blog to help people. They really do read it. If it is of very poor quality, you will not sell anything on your blog. People will assume the products you recommend are not of high quality and you are just there trying to make money at their expense.
3. You are not visible and approachable - This is a very key item. People want to know who they are listening to. They want to feel you are competent and a "real" person. When you give your visitors the ability to contact you, you are telling them a lot. Do not hide behind your website. I use Skype quite effectively to communicate with others. There are very few people that will actually contact you, but giving them the ability to do so is a competitive advantage for you.
4. Poor site layout - If your visitors and potential customers can not get around your site in a logical and well thought out manner, they will leave. It is as simple as that. If you are using your articles and posts to "pre-sell" your customers, there needs to be some well thought out logic on how people move around your site. A good exercise is to have a friend go into your site as a new visitor and potential customer. Get their feedback and make corrections. It will help your sales process a lot.
5. Products and content do not match - If your visitors can not figure out what you are trying to accomplish on your site, they will leave. This is not good for you at all. If you are going to have banners or text links on your site, make sure they are related to the content on the page. There are many sites out there that fail in this area very badly. You want your content to lead people to click on your links or your banners. There needs to be a strong tie between your content and your advertising. If you fail to do this, it will cost you a lot of sales that you might have made otherwise.
